Life has lost a sense of challenge for billionaire Steven Gherring, but he’s about to meet his match in a surprising package.

Gherring likes to control everything in his life. But just when he thinks nothing could ever surprise him, he meets Anne Best, a beautiful and fiesty widow from Texas. Wealthy and powerful, he's accustomed to respect and deference, but Anne isn't impressed. He ought to be offended, yet he feels something entirely different.
This free novella is a prequel and adjunct for Her Best Match, fun to read before or after the novel. It is a short look inside the head of Steven Gherring and a preview chapter of Her Best Match.

"If you like Hallmark movies, you'll love The Best Girls!"

Steven Gherring, the most eligible bachelor who is a filthy rich businessman, almost fifty, and has never found a woman who is worthy of his lifetime commitment.
Gram, Steven's ninety-five-year-old grandmother who wants him to get married.
Gary (Steven's best friend).
Katie Carson, Steven's executive assistant who plans to leave her job when she marries Gary.
Alicia Esparza, a beautiful, intelligent, up and coming politician who wants to form a relationship with Steven, maybe a marriage or maybe a mutually beneficial partnership.
Anne Best, a forty five year old lady who enters Steven's life in an unexpected way.

Tamie Dearen has written a brilliant prequel "tease" for those of us who have not yet read her The Best Girls Series. She creates a group of very interesting characters and places them in clever relationships. Her descriptions and storyline are creative and well crafted. Even though this is not my normal genre of interest, Ms. Dearen did such a good job with this prequel I will read more of The Best Girls Series. This is the best endorsement I can give. I strongly recommend 'The Best Is Yet to Come'.

The Best Is Yet to Come Novella Bonus for Her Best Match The Best Girls Book 0 edition by Tamie Dearen Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This brief introduction to The Best Girls Series does precisely what it is intended to do for a new reader it makes you want to read more. Having said that, it would also be a delightful companion piece if you have already read on. The Best Is Yet to Come was, for me, an introduction - and a perfect one at that.

As Jane Austen so wittily opined in the opening line of Pride and Prejudice, "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." Meet Steven Gherring, a middle-aged single man in possession of a good fortune, in want of a wife. At least if his ninety-five-year-old Gram is to be believed. Steven is mind-boggling successful, handsome, and the proud owner of a flawless reputation, but he has had no luck finding a wife. Women are available to him, of course, but despite the appealing offers he receives from models and sexy rising politicians, he's looking for something more. He dares to dream of the woman who wouldn't sell her left arm for a chance to be Mrs. Steven Gherring. Enter Anne Best - a widowed, shockingly-close-to-Steven's-age, practically makeup-free, real sort of woman. And Steven is intrigued.

I enjoyed every moment of this short read. The characters are fresh, the plot is well-paced, and the dialogue flows naturally. Author Tamie Dearen has set her trap perfectly, and I for one don't mind admitting I'm caught in the snare. I've just purchased Her Best Match, book one in The Best Girls Series, and I can't wait to get reading. I have a very strong suspicion the best is, indeed, yet to come.
This is a cute 5 chapter novella prequel to “Her Best Match A Romantic Comedy (The Best Girls Book 1)” from the point of view of our leading man, Steven Gherring. This novella gives us a glimpse into Steven Gherring’s thoughts and the days leading up to the billionaire mogul’s first meeting with Texan widow Anne Best; who puts his world at a tilt within minutes of their initial meeting.

The book is short, sweet, and charming with a dash of humor. It’s a nice appetizer read before starting the real romance story in “Her Best Match”, told by the point of view of Ann Best. One doesn’t have to read this book to enjoy “Her Best Match” but it sure is worth reading before, or even after, the first book in the series. It certainly made me chuckle and smile.
Steven is reluctant to accept the fact that his current secretary is leaving; he also resists his Gran's pressure to find a wife, though when an acquaintance asks him to be her more permanent arm candy, he is softening to the idea -- until Anne interviews to be his secretary, capturing his attention like no woman ever has.

(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)

Plot and Setting 3.7 -- Plot is mostly engaging. Has a few shaky bits and/or a slight lack of focus. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow. Granted this is a prequel novella, but it still is lacking a bit in the story department. I truly enjoyed the interview scene from Steven's perspective, but the rest I could do without. Some of the elements this story introduces -- such as Alicia -- in fact seem to contradict aspects of the book that follows. Not as good as I'd hoped.

Characters 3 -- Main characters are mostly relatable, realistic, interesting, and/or dynamic. Minor characters and villains are almost exclusively stereotyped or simplified. Relationships between characters are not especially well developed, but what is there is generally good. We get to know Steven to a certain degree, but other characters are fairly simple. Not horrible, considering it's so short, but not impressive, either.

Mechanics and Writing 4 -- A handful of typos, punctuation issues, or word errors. (<15/100 pgs) None of the errors seriously hinder understanding. Good use of POV. Generally skillful writing. Errors include homophone confusion, mild punctuation or formatting issues, minor inconsistencies. POV is all Steven, or rather Gherring, since he apparently calls himself by his last name?

Redeeming Value 3.3 -- Incidental uplifting themes or lessons. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified. No explicit sex scenes, but plenty of emphasis on physical attraction. Vague/implied moral guidelines for behavior. Alicia is very willing to sleep with Steven, and he's not unmoved by her seduction; it implies that if he hadn't met Anne when he did, he would've gone along with Alicia's suggestions. It's also clear he did his share of sleeping around in the past, though recently his goals and MO have changed.

Personal Enjoyment 3 -- I liked it. It was enjoyable and entertaining. I wouldn’t mind re-reading it someday, but it’s not a priority.
