They get together for a "pre-date", and sparks fly. She is also ex military and quite an athlete. Eli and Anya are perfect for one another. Beauty and the Brigadier Military Romance eBook DL Jackson Reviews
I have always loved D.L. Jackson's books, but I wasn't sure I'd enjoy a romance with 'mature' characters. I was so wrong. Ms. Jackson's hero and heroine are so real, they jump off the pages, and their conflicts are so universal, I forgot every concern I had. This book is a great addition to the amazing 1Night Stand series. I can't wait to read more by this author!
Quick and light, Beauty and the Brigadier is a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the fact that the main characters in the story weren’t young – but rather middle-aged. It was nice to read about two mature people who are brought together without all of the dramatics or need to rehash their old wounds. The story is more about finding someone to share time with than the million and one ways to bone.
The characters are well written, particularly our two lovers in the story, Eli and Anya. They are pretty well developed considering the length of the story, and it was fun to read about how life brought them together. I also like the clever twist on the plot – a Beauty and the Beast-esque storyline that worked well here.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a welcome relief from the usual run-of-the-mill romance novel.

What a charming and passionate story! I loved it from first to last. It's short, but by no means is it rough or unfinished. The characters were developed as was the plot. It is an autumn romance between a couple at outward glance shouldn't work, yet are a good fit.
Brigadier General Eli Wells lost his wife two years ago and has been bitter and lonely ever since. He takes any sign of moving on as disloyal to his wife, but that leaves him in a miserable state and everyone around him can attest to that. Into his life drops the invitation to his godson's big political event. It's a ball and Steve wants him to bring a date. Eli can't disappoint Steve, but he's stumped so he orders his aide to get him a date. Whoever it is, the woman better be able to keep up with a soldier.
Anya Volkov has been forced to accept the fact that at fifty she is too old to continue with her modeling career the way it has been in the past. Her agent and friend is the one to make her face hard facts, but he leaves her with some parting advice and a business card for Madam Eve's dating service. Anya is at loose ends so she decides to give it a try. Maybe she'll get lucky and get a man who is rugged and likes adventure.
The two main characters had me smiling the whole time. Eli's antics to get out of his date and then his change of heart when he actually meets Anya. Then there are Anya's secrets that had me laughing when she sprung them on Eli. And the shower scene? Gah! I loved these two together and my only disappointment was that I couldn't get a few more pages with them.
This is for those who enjoy military romance, autumn romances and the 1NS series.
